Living at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home relieves individuals of tasks that have become burdensome in their own homes, such as shopping, food preparation, cleaning and home maintenance. One of the primary reasons people come to live at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home is the opportunity for increased social interaction with others.

Or if your needs for care are greater and require skilled nursing care or daily assistance, our nursing care area provides the increased services. Our nursing care area is staffed by trained, caring people who provide excellent twenty-four hour care.

Q. Do I have to be a member of the Order of the Eastern Star to become a resident?
A. The New Jersey Eastern Star Home welcomes members of the general public.

Q. How is room and board paid at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home?
A. Each individual resident pays the daily rate privately, out of their personal resources on a monthly basis, one month in advance. This payment can be thought of as any usual rent or mortgage payment that one would pay if living in the community.

Q. How are my assets managed?
A. You or your designated legal representative maintain control and management of your assets, using or liquidating them as your need for payment arises on a monthly basis during your stay at the Home.

Q. What happens when my resources will no longer meet the monthly charges?
A. There are financial assistance programs that you will be directed to apply to for room and board subsidy. Our Social Services department will identify your options, explain the procedures to apply for assistance, and help you with the process.

Q. Does the New Jersey Eastern Star Home accept Medicaid?
A. Yes. The New Jersey Eastern Star Home is a Medicaid certified facility. If medically and financially eligible, Medicaid will pay the cost of room and board and pre-designated medical expenses. The Medicaid program pays room and board expenses in the Nursing Care area only.

Q. Is the New Jersey Eastern Star Home a Medicare certified facility?
A. Yes. Medicare may be the primary payment source for a designated period of time for Nursing Care if a resident meets the health care needs eligibility criteria. Medicare is a government insurance program which pays for short-term acute qualifying health conditions.

Q. When I come to live at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home, may I bring my car?
A. Yes. If you own a car and are a licensed driver you may bring your car with you when you become a resident of the New Jersey Eastern Star Home.

Q. I’d like to bring some of my furnishings from home with me when I come to live at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home. Can I do this?
A. Yes. Residents are encouraged to bring their personal possessions and small pieces of furniture with them to personalize their rooms.

Q. Once I move into the Home, if I decide I’d rather live elsewhere, can I leave?
A. You are free to leave the Home at any time, if you so decide, without any penalties.

Q. I’m taking care of my mother at home. She requires 24-hour attention and care. I really feel I need a break. Can the New Jersey Eastern Star Home help me?
A. Yes. The Home has an Overnight Respite Program which allows caregivers to place their loved ones in our Home for short periods of time. Respite care is provided in either Nursing Care or Residential Living areas, depending on the needs of the individual.
